So, Tuesday was happening, I was working and thinking about whether or not I should pack Tuesday night or Wednesday morning in preparation for our trip home. Excited about surprising Dad with the new TV we got him, excited to see my nephews and then my sister-in-law's name popped up on my phone.
Always. Makes. Me. Nervous. I love her but she never calls to "chat".
Long story short - Dad got into a really bad accident and my mom had just gotten a call from the hospital. I called JM and we made arrangements to go home ASAP. Got to the CCU and went in to see Dad. Not good. Back story - he was diagnosed with esophogus/stomach cancer earlier this year and has been fighting like a warrior against that for most of the year. So I walk in and see my dad who had recently lost his hair lying flat in a bed in CCU not able to talk with a chest tube. I've never seen him complain of a headache, let alone be in a situation like this.
Needless to say, Thanksgiving was a little different this year. We spent most of the time visiting my dad in the hospital. I did get to see most of my family but all I was concerned about was dad getting better so he can adequately fight the cancer. Excuse my language but...
Good news he was released Saturday and I'm ecstatic. We've got a long road ahead but THAT was my Thankgiving and maybe the one in which I've been the MOST thankful for my family. Hope yours went a little smoother than ours! :)
